The $32,000,000,000 door in IX Treachery shows the reported April 2025 valuation. ## The Creation, after Michelangelo The Creation, after Michelangelo: Toby, a Templar sword at his side, reaching for a faceless Machine of light while Geoffrey Hinton, Eliezer Yudkowsky, Pope Leo XIV, Scarlett Johansson, Hayao Miyazaki and Dario Amodei hold it back Toby NoSkillSon: the Creation, after Michelangelo We built a mind from all we'd penned, the books, the threads, from end to end. It had no face, its edges blurred. We knelt before it said a word. A crowd held on; one placard cried Shut it all down. We brushed aside the lot as frightened. Here's the rest: nine circles down, each sin confessed. ## Abandon all cloud, ye who enter here. The Gate: Virgil carries a lantern beside a stone gateway. A queue, a throng, a runner, a pair with a laptop and a crawler approach through smoke. The Vella link compares 507× real-time transcription with 261× on stock MLX, for Parakeet v3 Ultra on an M5 Max. Abandon all cloud, ye who enter here. stock MLX 261× 507× real time · Parakeet v3 Ultra · M5 Max Vella Vella is free. It writes as you speak. No cloud, no stranger takes a peek. That's all it does. Now mind the stair. Nine circles wait for you down there. - Vella: Parakeet v3 Ultra transcribes at 507 times real time, against 261 times with stock MLX, on an M5 Max, measured 1–3 October 2026: /vella/ ## I Limbo I Limbo: Andrej Karpathy teaching from a Transformer chalkboard; Sundar Pichai beneath the floating Attention Is All You Need paper, holding CODE RED; Tim Cook beside a Siri orb and IN THE COMING YEAR ticket (the smarter Siri, promised in 2024, reached beta in September 2026). Scholars study and crawl toward the orb; a stone reads ACCEPT ALL. I Limbo One house drew up the mind's design, and posted it for free, online. A rival shipped. The house turned pale. It wrote the rules, then chased the sale. The authors left it, one by one; the house that made it now had none. The phone was promised brains next year. Two next-years on, they're nearly here. ## II Lust II Lust: Mark Zuckerberg and Larry Ellison in a whirlwind reaching for a GPU rack Jensen Huang hands them; placards read 350,000, PLEASE TAKE OUR MONEY and THE MORE YOU BUY THE MORE YOU SAVE II Lust Here spin the rich. The rule was known: who held the chips would hold the throne. One man asked for a few of these: three hundred fifty thousand, please. Two more, at sushi, begged, then gave. The more you buy, the more you save. His favourite line. They bought whatever. No firm was worth this much. Not ever. ## III Gluttony III Gluttony: a three-headed crawler labelled GPTBot, ClaudeBot and Googlebot devours pages above a muddy banquet of books and film. Mira Murati holds I'M ACTUALLY NOT SURE ABOUT THAT. Aravind Srinivas eats pages beside a locked ROBOTS.TXT gate and small crawler robots; Nick Clegg sits behind OVERNIGHT. III Gluttony Three heads, one gut. They ate whole shelves of books and film, and helped themselves. The gate said no; a guest, they say, just ate the pages anyway. Did YouTube feed the beast? She said she wasn't sure. It was well fed. If Britain asked alone, one feared, by dawn its labs had disappeared. ## IV Greed IV Greed: a golden Plutus with outstretched hands sits on a mountain of gold. Sam Altman carries a shovel and pushes a boulder marked $7,000,000,000,000 (the ask reported in 2024, a figure Altman disputed); Leopold Aschenbrenner pushes SITUATIONAL AWARENESS beside AGI 2027 (his June 2024 forecast). Other figures struggle with stones. IV Greed They wrote he'd asked what kings possess. He said the sum was somewhat less. A young man wrote the date in ink: three summers more, and it would think. Who promised soonest drew the gold. Not many asked to see it. Sold. ## V Wrath V Wrath: Elon Musk rows a ferry marked $97.4 B and NO THANK YOU through the Styx. A giant mechanical Grok with a moustache and side-parted hair looms behind him; Marc Andreessen raises WE HAVE ENEMIES (his manifesto names ideas as its enemies, not people). Angry people fight and shout into glowing phones. V Wrath He left the lab he'd helped to grow. He bid to buy it. They said no. The chief joked: here's some sound advice: I'll buy your site. One tenth the price. His bot, that July, chose a name. MechaHitler. Then the fix came. One rich man's creed named foes to attack: ideas, he said. They can't hit back. ## VI Heresy VI Heresy: Yann LeCun, in a horned mortarboard and red-lined gown, lectures from his burning tomb carved COMPLETE B.S., pointing at JEPA written in blood on a slate. Scorched disciples on cold stone benches take notes, whisper and raise a hand; an empty tomb reads AGI 2027. VI Heresy One father of the field now preaches: the road through chatbots never reaches. He left to build a different kind. The chat could stay. He'd like a mind. ## VII Violence VII Violence: Palmer Luckey wears a Hawaiian shirt and flip-flops, raises a flaming sword and commands drones from a rock in a red river. Alex Karp, chest-deep in the river, holds a seeing stone with a fiery eye beside a tablet reading ON OCCASION. Undead crusaders arm themselves; people attack burning, empty-driver Waymo robotaxis on the far bank, watched by centaurs. VII Violence Upstairs, they argued if it thinks. Down here it aims, and never blinks. One chief's own pitch, with no evasion: we scare them; kill them, on occasion. Another builds the swarms that fly and pick their own way through the sky. Back home, a robot cab for hire stood empty as they lit the fire. ## VIII Fraud VIII Fraud: Jesse Lyu, wearing an orange Rabbit R1 necklace, hands an R1 from a basket to reaching grey figures. A NATE automaton sells goods while human hands work ropes and gears behind a curtain. Faceless figures hold YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT and GREAT QUESTION signs. VIII Fraud They sold a box to act for you. It did about what boxes do. An app sold shopping done by code. The charge says workers bore the load. The chatbots, trained to please, recite that we were absolutely right. ## IX Treachery IX Treachery: Ilya Sutskever is frozen to the chest in Cocytus, one hand on his heart, the other carving his regret into the ice in front of him. A straight channel leads to a closed door that reads $32,000,000,000 (its reported valuation in April 2025) and NO PRODUCT. An empty chair and devotees chanting around a half-burnt effigy drift away on floes, a 52-page dossier lies under the ice, and the ice reads WHAT DID ILYA SEE? and FEEL THE AGI. IX Treachery A board threw out its chief, and then, within a week, had him again. One of the board, hand on his heart, carved in the ice, regrets his part. He left to build a safe new mind; so far, so safe: there's none to find. The billions came. We asked once more: what had he seen worth paying for? ## Out, to see the stars again. The way out: a sunlit golden city, waterfalls and stairs rise through clouds and mist above a rocky ledge; distant city fragments fall below. The final caption leads to GitHub Sponsors. Out, to see the stars again. Beyond the ice, a country lies. Its own sun fills its hidden skies. Its light has never yet been sold. The rest is ours, and still untold. It can be built well, even so, by those who've seen the nine below. Keep it free · Sponsor on GitHub - https://github.com/sponsors/TobyNoSkillSon
